MARTINSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE
COMPANY
The Martinsville Fire
Department was organized in 1891 as a volunteer agency.
Today more than 100 years later, volunteers continue serving Martinsville. Known as Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company,
these Samaritans aid Martinsville Fire & EMS by performing the same duties as the
career personnel. Volunteers ride along on
engine companies, provide fire suppression, answer medical calls, attend free training
courses, and other exciting duties.
The company has been very
active since its inception. Volunteers save
the City of Martinsville numerous dollars each year.
If not for the volunteers, department activity would be reduced or more
revenue would be necessary to support additional personnel.
Volunteers even assist with fire prevention projects. Additionally, they raise funds and purchase
equipment that the department normally would not be able to purchase.
