Housing

The City of Martinsville hosted the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development annual conference in 2003.The Housing Office administers the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development 's Housing Choice Voucher Program, in Martinsville and Henry County, connecting Martinsville residents with safe, affordable housing by providing vouchers for low - income residents in need.

The Community Development Office is recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an award winning program designed to help assist the most people possible. Since the early 1990s, the department has undertaken four major neighborhood revitalization programs in Southside, Moss-Barton, Massey-Endless and Academy Place.

The department's accomplishments were highlighted when it hosted the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development's annual conference in Fall 2003.

The voucher program's waiting list is periodically open to accept new applications. Announcements of the list opening are made through local media and through Martinsville Government Television, Adelphia Channel 22.
